Exhibition: Great artists on Paper in Uruguayan Art
José Ignacio, November 15, 2025 – Galería de las Misiones is pleased to inaugurate an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to works on paper by the great masters of Uruguayan art, spanning from a magnificent 1919 ink by Joaquín Torres García, through photoforms by Rómulo Aguerre, to superb inks by Hilda López. This unique show gathers exceptional pieces, many of them rare and hard to access, offering a deep insight into the evolution of national art in the 20th century.
The exhibition highlights five works by Rafael Barradas, a true treasure for collectors and scholars. Likewise, emblematic creations by members of the Taller Torres García are presented, including José Gurvich, Mario Pailós, Alpuy, and Francisco Matto, reflecting the master's constructive heritage. Uruguayan POP art bursts in with a unique piece by Ruisdael Suárez: a large-format artist's proof for a silkscreen that was never editioned, a milestone in the experimental production of the 1960s.
Complementing the diversity, photography joins with two vintage works from the 1950s by Rómulo Aguerre, capturing the essence of the era's geometric abstraction.
The exhibition not only celebrates technical mastery on paper but also underscores the richness of Uruguayan modernism, connecting universal avant-gardes with local identity. Ideal for art lovers, researchers, and the general public interested in cultural heritage.
